"Here, gathered together in a convenient volume are the first six issues of THE SCIENCE FICTION CRITIC to be published by The Futile Press. With HAMMER AND TONGS... it represents the important contents of the first two years of that magazine. The edition comprises over 75 pages of essays, reviews, criticism, biography, and articles of general interest. More than three dozen separate pieces are here, including the work of D. R. Smith, Peter Duncan, John W. Campbell, Jr., Louis C. Smith, Donn Brazier, D. W. F. Mayer, and many others. This is not a collection of rebound magazines, but a separate edition of hitherto unassembled sheets. Complete with an index of authors, this is among the best bargains ever offered to scientific fiction 'fans.'" In addition to those mentioned above, contributors to these issues include Robert A. W. Lowndes, John B. Michel, William H. Miller, Jr., Sam Moskowitz, Frederik Pohl, and Clark Ashton Smith. Moskowitz, The Immortal Storm, p. 46. Pavlat and Evans, Fanzine Index (1965), pp. 97-8. Some spotting to front and rear covers, else a fine copy. Rare. Only a few of these bind-ups were produced. (#110395)
