Later printing. Advertisements at rear include A STUDY IN SCARLET which Ward, Lock published in 1888. Collects five stories, "The City of Burlesque," "An Old Fogey," "Major Dunwoody's Leg," "Professor Baffin's Adventures" (retitled "The Fortunate Island") and "'Jinnie,'" and a play "Her Second Husband. A Comedy in Three Acts." Bleiler comments that "The Fortunate Island" is an "excellent lost race science-fiction story... which offers a foretaste of Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court."
