Scribner's Magazine (editors). LIFE IN THE UNITED STATES: A COLLECTION OF NARRATIVES OF CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN LIFE FROM FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE OR OBSERVATION. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1933. Octavo, original brown cloth stamped in black, top edge stained orange, fore-edge untrimmed. First edition. The twenty-seven pieces here, selected from some 4500 entries in a contest run by SCRIBNER'S MAGAZINE, are almost all by amateur writers. The roughly textured cloth is pleasing to the touch and somewhat unusual as a binding material. A fine copy in fair printed dust jacket with several small chips and closed tears at edges, general dust soiling, and a couple of internal tape mends, one with some show through at bottom edge of rear panel.
