SLIM RAILS THROUGH THE SAND: A GRAPHIC PRESENTATION OF THE CARSON & COLORADO - SOUTHERN PACIFIC NARROW GAUGE RAILROAD. [Long Beach, California: Published by Johnston & Howe, 1963.]. 28x21.4 cm, pp. [1-8] 1-102 [103-104], photographs, maps, plans, original pictorial white cloth printed in blue, pictorial front endpaper, map on rear endpaper. First edition. Number 1902 of an unspecified number of copies signed by Turner. "Although primarily a book for rail fans, the desert enthusiast will find much to capture his interest, both in the photographs and in the brief comment accompanying them. This is the book that tells of the Carson and Colorado Railroad, at one time extending from Mound House, southwest of Dayton, Nevada, and running southwest to skirt the eastern side of Walker Lake, past Mina, Belleville -- with a spur to Candeleria, finally dropping south into California near Benton and extending past Laws (near Bishop), and on to Owenyo and Keeler. The photographs -- particularly those of Candeleria (Nevada), Keeler, and Cerro Gordo -- are of historic interest" (Edwards, The Enduring Desert: a Descriptive Bibliography, pp. 238). A fine copy in very good dust jacket with 30 mm closed tear and associated wrinkle at top edge of rear panel and faded spine panel. (#166264).
