AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (ALS). 2 pages, undated [circa September 1934], to "Dear Bho-Blok" [i.e., Robert Bloch], signed "Yrs by the Black Cylinder - E'ch-Pi-El." On plain 5 1/2 x 9-inch paper, with "Valley of Nis - Hour of the Sounds from Below" written at top. Reports a recent visit to Nantucket [31 August - 6 September 1934]. "Never have I encountered a more complete & unspoiled survival from the past. Toward the last I explored the island on a hired bicycle... It brought back so many memories of youth that I almost felt I must hurry home for the opening of Hope St. High School!" He passes on good wishes about stories submitted by Bloch to various magazines or planned by him. "Your programme - with 14 stories on the docket - is surely assuming d'Erlettian [August Derlethian] proportions …." He comments on a piece of weird artwork of Bloch's and mentions that "a young chap in N.Y. is making a clay statuette of the Thing in 'Pickman's Model'" [one of Lovecraft's better known weird tales]. He passes on some gossip about the current horror pulps. He comments that his aunt is away on a visit, leaving him "the sole occupant of my ancient quarters" and he might be getting a visit from "one or both of the Wandreis this month." A light and chatty letter, mostly a response to items of interest in Bloch's missive. He ends by saying he must get back to work. "My programme has been barbarously crowded since my return from Nantucket … & I now face a demand for an elegy, in verse, on a lately-deceased member of the National Press Association. I wish the members of that organization would forget my metrical past!" Faint creases where folded for mailing, else fine. (#102767).
