COILS [novel]. AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT (AMs). The last four chapters, written single -spaced in pencil on 53 unnumbered leaves of yellow lined legal-pad paper. COILS (1982), a collaboration with Fred Saberhagen, grew out of a spec film treatment that Zelazny wrote and failed to place with a studio (Currey inventory #106990). It's quite possible that these four chapters (12-15), together with the treatment (about 3500 words long), constituted the entirety of Zelazny's contribution to the project. The story deals with the crossing of barriers between man and computer. "Zelazny's film work includes a movie from whose credits he deliberately had his name removed: "Dreamscape," based on HE WHO SHAPES / DREAM MASTER. He worked on the screenplay for a while and removed his name when he saw later versions of it. This is acknowledged in some of his interviews, and his introduction to the poem entitled DREAMSCAPE." - Chris Kovacs, from an unpublished bibliography-in-progress of Zelazny. A little bit of rumpling and creasing to tops or bottoms of some leaves, generally very good. (#107005).
