First edition of this text. This edition, anonymously edited by G. S. Hillard, includes a lengthy introductory essay, "An Essay on the Life and Writings of Edmund Spenser" (anonymous, but by George Robinson according to Lowndes), republished from the five-volume Pickering edition of Spencer published in 1825, which, according to Hillard, "was taken as the basis of the present one ... The Introductory Observations upon the 'Faerie Queene,' the glossarial and explanatory notes, have been added by the present editor." NCBEL I 1030. Lowndes, p. 2477.
