Presentation copy with inscription by Sharpe "To dearest Lilian / with love from / Cousin Elizabeth" on the front free endpaper. In her "Author's Note," Sharpe writes, "These stories are of an India that reaches back to the Golden Age: some of them being completely original, others partly so. Much of the material used in these latter has been collected from legend, old manuscripts and the bards of India." This collection of fourteen tales was reprinted in 2000 as volume 10 of the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF INDIAN FOLK LITERATURE. Cloth bubbled on front panel, lower corner tips bruised, a bright, very good copy.
