First edition in English. An anonymous translation, probably based on the 1924 Paris French-language edition. "His more lasting fame -- as a conteur -- rests on his oriental tales ..." - Oxford Companion to French Literature, p. 313. Five were published in NOUVELLES ASIATIQUES (1876) and another appeared in SOUVENIRS DE VOYAGE (1872). Faint water stains to lower edges of cloth and lower right margin of text block, still a very good copy in good dust jacket with edge wear, dust soiling and small damp stain at lower right corner of front panel.
