THE BREATH OF GENIUS. London, New York, Melbourne: Hutchinson & Co. (Publishers), Ltd., n.d. [1944]. Octavo, pp. [1-6] 7-192, original black cloth, front and spine panels stamped in gold. First edition. "Mark Channing" was the pen name of L. A. M. Jones (1879-1943), a British soldier for twenty-one years who served on the frontier of northwest India. In addition to his popular short fiction with Indian settings and a mainstream novel set there as well, he published four fantastic adventure novels set in the India/Tibet/Himalayas region. This collection of thirty-four stories treats romance and adventure at a popular level; it includes stories set in the Chicago underworld and several weird tales, including "The Feet," his best horror story. Cloth rubbed at spine ends and corner tips, a bright, very good copy in very good dust jacket with light shelf wear at edges, small chip from head of spine panel, several short closed tears, and some dust soiling to rear panel. An uncommon book. (#115571).
