First edition. The most extensive English-language collection of stories by Gustavo Adolfo Becquer (1836-1870), known as "the Spanish Poe." Becquer was the most famous nineteenth century Spanish writer of supernatural fiction, and was very influential on Latin American fiction. This is one of only two English-language collections extant, the other being a smaller selection published anonymously as TERRIBLE TALES: SPANISH (1890).
