Fourteen stories, several set in northern Louisiana. Benefield, born in eastern Texas in 1877, emigrated to New York City and worked in the publishing business. His novel, THE CHICKEN WAGON FAMILY (1925), was well-received. One of the stories here, "That Cesar Honfleur," received three stars (the highest rating) in O'Brien's Yearbook of the American Short Story for 1926. "Queen of the Graveyard Ghouls" is an amusing and affectionate reference to the dime novel. Cloth rubbed and scuffed, jacket flap copy affixed to front paste-down, free endpapers tanned, store stamp at top edge of front free endpaper, small stains to lower margins of pages 15-40, a sound, good copy.
