Lu Hsun, the "father of modern Chinese literature," was China's foremost literary figure of the twentieth century. In addition to his scholarly works and translations, Lu Hsun published three collections of short fiction, CALL TO ARMS, his earliest collection of stories, all written between 1918 and 1922, WANDERING, stories written between 1924 and 1925, and OLD TALES RETOLD, a collection of eight stories based on old myths and legends written between 1922 and 1935, the year in which this collection was first published.
