First printing of the first one-volume edition. A collection of five short novels first published by Smith, Elder in two volumes in 1871 under her pen name "Stephen Yorke." Linskill "went on to specialize in sentimental love stories with strong regional (particularly North Yorkshire) settings and hearty heroines. Much of her fiction came out under the imprint of SPCK." - Sutherland, Victorian Fiction, p. 376. Not in Sadleir or Wolff. Owner's inked signature on front free endpaper. Slight spine lean, touch of wear to spine ends and corner tips, some foxing to free endpapers with offset on first and last text leaves, but a nice, bright copy, with tight inner hinges and otherwise clean interior.
