Includes a revised text of BLOOD ORANGES (1932). Young was trained as a physician and worked as a ship's surgeon early in his career, a setting reflected in about half of these stories. Sinclair Lewis (quoted on the dust jacket's rear panel) praised the author, saying "he has maintained the Grand Tradition of the British novel and all its spacious manner.
