Includes a revised text of BLOOD ORANGES (1932). Young was trained as a physician and worked as a ship's surgeon early in his career, a setting reflected in about half of these stories. Sinclair Lewis (quoted on the dust jacket's rear panel) praised the author, saying "he has maintained the Grand Tradition of the British novel and all its spacious manner. But with Lawrence and Bennett, he has given it new life ..." NCBEL IV 782. A bright, nearly fine copy in good printed dust jacket with wear at edges, shallow chipping at spine ends, some general soiling and age-darkening, and wrinkles to upper edge of rear panel.
