MAN OF MANY MINDS [novel]. TYPED MANUSCRIPT (TMs), setting copy, with some handwritten corrections and printer instructions, on 277 sheets of letter-size bond. Together with long galley proofs of same, numbering 56 sheets. The typescript is foliated [1-2] [1]-113 [114]-274 275A (the text is complete). The cover page indicates that the author (listing his Los Angeles home address) was represented by the [Forrest] Ackerman Agency (also of Los Angeles). A fairly straightforward text of this genre science fiction novel published by Fantasy Press in 1953. The tale of a mind-reading secret agent was followed by a sequel two years later, ALIEN MINDS. The typescript's last page (275A) has a note at top, crossed out in pencil by the editor, indicating its copy as an alternate ending to what presumably was on page 275 (which was evidently tossed by the editor). The note adds that the alternate ending should be used in conjunction with an alternate book title suggested by Evans: THE BIRDS AND THE BEES. Obviously, the editor took the alternate ending but not the alternate title. The galleys bear occasional handwritten corrections by Evans, who has also initialed each page at the bottom. The cover sheet has some faint stains, but the typescript is generally in excellent condition, as are the galley proofs (which have been folded once, as is typically the case). (#118300).
