THE RED TRIANGLE: BEING SOME FURTHER CHRONICLES OF MARTIN HEWITT: INVESTIGATOR. London: Eveleigh Nash, 1903. Octavo, pp. [1-8] [1-3] 4-304, original pictorial medium blue cloth, front panel stamped in red, white and black, spine panel stamped in gold. First edition. Fourth and last collection of detective fiction featuring Martin Hewitt, a famous private detective whose methods closely resemble those of Sherlock Holmes. In this series of six linked sensation stories Hewitt pursues a Moriarty-like master criminal who uses hypnotism to conduct his criminal activities and control his henchmen. "Martin Hewitt is the only contemporary imitator of Sherlock Holmes to survive the years." - Queen, The Detective Short Story, p. 75. Barzun and Taylor, A Catalogue of Crime 2673. Hubin (1994), p. 587. Wolff 4946. Cloth lightly rubbed at spine ends and corner tips, hint of foxing to edges of text block and mild tanning to endpapers, a near fine copy; externally a bright and very attractive copy. A very nice copy of a book that generally turns up in tatty condition. (#118788).
