WEIRD TIT-BITS: IRISH. New York and London: White & Allen, n.d. [1888]. Small octavo, pp. [1-2] 3 [4] 5-256, original maroon boards (imitation calf), spine panel stamped in gold, floral patterned endpapers, all edges plain. First U.S. edition. Various bibliographers including Bleiler and Reginald state that this anthology series was reprinted under varying titles, including this one. Reginald dates 1895? The first editions were produced in 1888 as WEIRD TALES: AMERICAN, etc., by William Paterson of London, and apparently first or later printing sheets were later utilized by Brentano's of New York. However, the earliest U.S. printing was this White & Allen edition. According to The American Catalogue, the five volume set was published in 1888 in imitation calf at $2.50 and imitation half calf (i.e. half cloth and boards) at $7.50 per set respectively. The 1888 publication date is here confirmed by a gift inscription dated 1888 on the front free endpaper. Collects eleven stories by Samuel Lover, Will. Carlton, Charles Lever, T. Crofton Croker, J. B. O'Meara, and others. Barron (ed), Horror Literature 2-4. Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 1666. Reginald 14973A. Boards rubbed at spine ends and corner tips, several small stains at edges of boards, some tanning to free endpapers, a very good copy. (#119298).
