(#127434) THE MOON ENDURETH: TALES AND FANCIES. John Buchan.

THE MOON ENDURETH: TALES AND FANCIES. New York: Sturgis & Walton Company, 1912. Octavo, pp. [1-4] [i-ix] x-xii [1-3] 4-298 [299-304: blank] [note: first two and last three leaves are blanks], original brownish-green cloth, front panel stamped in dark brown and silver, spine panel stamped in dark brown. First U.S. edition. This copy stamped "sample copy" on the title page. This is a variant binding of brownish-green cloth as opposed to the usually observed blue cloth, priority, if any, not established. Collects eight poems and eight stories. Two of the latter collected here, "Space" and "The Grove of Ashtaroth," are "among Buchan's best work" - Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 292. This U.S. edition drops three stories included in the earlier UK edition, "Streams of Water in the South," "The Riding of the Ninemileburn," and "The Rime of True Thomas," and adds a story, "Fountainblue," not included in the earlier UK edition. Additionally, two of the ten poems published in the UK edition are omitted from the US edition. Some rubbing to cloth at edges, an attractive, very good plus copy. (#127434).
