Stuart was born at Berlin, Vermont, July 28, 1820, went to New York in 1840, and devoted himself to literary pursuits. For a time he was a Universalist preacher. He was co-editor of the NEW YORK SUN, 1843-53, and established the NEW YORKER, was for a time connected with the NEW YORK MIRROR.
