Advance copy of the first U.S. edition. The novel was serialized in THE WESTMINSTER GAZETTE, December 1922 through February 1923. The UK Cassell edition was published in January 1923. the same month Macmillan's "advance copy" was sent to booksellers to "be of service to you in building up your advance orders." According to the publisher's tipped in printed slip, "no copies of MEN LIKE GODS are to be sold until May 22, 1923." A late, but major Wells fantasy. Twenty centuries in the future a tourist cuts his hand in the ruins of the "Ages of Confusion." In a fever induced dream he experiences " a whole life in that old world."
