POEMS. By the Late Rt. Rev. Reginald Heber, D.D. Lord Bishop of Calcutta. Hingham, [Massachusetts]: C. and E. B. Gill, M. Pratt -- Printer, 1830. Small 12mo, original yellow boards, blue paper label affixed to spine panel. First U.S. edition. Heber, a famous missionary to India and popular writer of hymns, died in 1826. Introductory Tribute by Felicia Hemans. Appears to include the contents of the 1812 London POEMS, but the majority added in this edition. Possibly the added poems are from the London 1829 POEMS AND TRANSLATIONS, also printed in Philadelphia in 1828. Heber's bibliography is quite muddled, with apparent contradictions. The Life of Reginald Heber, by His Widow, was published in New York in 1830. Cracks along outer joints, all corners worn, two small chips from spine panel, some soiling and staining to boards, light foxing to interior, a sound, good copy. (#132053).
