A techno-thriller involving a transatlantic race in giant aircraft in which a German engineer rescues a competitor whose own super plane, "The Leviathan," has been forced to land in the Atlantic. After helping the English pilot repair his downed aircraft, he flies back to Germany rather than out race his rival to the United States. "As the 'T1000' settled into its landing pattern over Tempelhof, the 'Leviathan' flew over the Statue of Liberty ... but the world cheered the Germans." - Peter Fisher. According to Sapra, a technological Zukunftsroman based on the unrealized Project J-1000 that aviation pioneer Hugo Junkers (1859-1935) had proposed in 1922. Fisher, Fantasy and Politics: Visions of the Future in the Weimar Republic, p. 221. Lexikon 2, p. 218. Bloch (2002) 2577. Nagl, p. 259. Spine lean, spine panel faded, a very good copy. (#133683).
