(#133947) AETHERIO. EINE PLANETENFAHRT. August Niemann, Wilhelm Otto.

AETHERIO. EINE PLANETENFAHRT. Regensburg: W. Wunderling's Hofbuchhandlung, 1909. Octavo, pp. [1-3] 4-222 [223-224: ads], modern rebind in cloth-backed boards. First edition. A utopian fantasy anticipating the planetary romances of Edgar Rice Burroughs. The Princess Fantasia, Dr. Practico, a physician, Mediator, a chemist, and Peppino, a clever mechanic, travel through the solar system in the Aetherschiffes "Aetherio," visiting the Moon, Venus, and Mars. On the Moon, which bears some resemblance to Plato's Atlantis, they narrowly escape from voracious fatballs. On Venus, they meet the scientist Lesneh who is persecuted for his progressive views by the other inhabitants of the planet. On Mars they find the inhabitants ruled by a matriarchy.
