"THE GARDEN OF DREAMS" [poem]. TYPED MANUSCRIPT SIGNED (TMsS). Twenty-five lines on full sheet of letter size paper, carbon copy (purple) with one correction of typo by hand, dated "Jan. 7, 1916" by different typewriter at top, signed in full (blue ink, spidery backward slanting hand) at bottom. "Five five-line stanzas in a balladic tetrameter (a-b-b-a-b), a meditation on the subject of inspiration, told with strong narrative sinew and a surprising absence of the narcissism one might have expected from the conjunction of such a theme and such an author. An excellent piece of work." - Robert Eldridge. Apparently unpublished. Not in Sidney-Fryer, Donald. Emperor of Dreams: a Clark Ashton Smith Bibliography. Old folding creases, some edge-nicks and short tears, generally very good. Provenance: Samuel Loveman papers. (#136257).
