"DEAD LOVE" [poem]. TYPED MANUSCRIPT SIGNED (TMsS). Sonnet (fourteen lines) on full sheet of letter size paper, ribbon copy (probably) with several handwritten corrections of typos, dated "May 8, 1918" in different typewriter at top and signed in full by author (purple ink, forward slanting hand) at bottom. "A sonnet in Smith's usual semi-Petrarchan form (two quatrains and a split sestet) delivering a eulogy for a dead lover (or is it an apology for the love of death?), one of CAS's most common themes, but executed here with a degree of precision and intricacy that raises it above the merely conventional." - Robert Eldridge. Sidney-Fryer, Donald. Emperor of Dreams: a Clark Ashton Smith Bibliography, p. 45. Old folding creases, else fine. Provenance: Samuel Loveman papers. (#136303).
