Science fiction novel of the construction of a tunnel through the earth to connect New York City and Australia and the adventures of the plucky Horatio Alger-type lad who volunteers to test it. The story first appeared as a four-part serial in ST. NICHOLAS, January-April 1898 with seventeen imaginative illustrations by MacKay. This Century text is expanded.
