Marginal fantasy; "it describes the Biblical contest between Moses and Aaron and the magicians of Pharaoh." - Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 681. "Supercilious young handsome English lord with learned German archaeologist in his train are taken by villainous Greek (for a price) to tomb he has spotted as unopened, and after the swiftest dig on record ("Do not damage the sarcophagus, I want to take it along and give it to the British Museum"), find the mummy of a beautiful young woman (!), and a papyrus with the novel written on it." - Wolff 2444 (citing this 1886 translation by Maud Young). Bleiler (1948), p. 124 (citing a 1882 edition). Reginald 05853 (citing the New York: Bradburn, 1863 edition). Not in Bleiler (1978). Shallow chip from upper spine end, cloth worn at lower spine end, corner tips rubbed, a very good copy. Actually, a better than average copy of this edition which is mostly found in tired condition.
