THE EXTENDED CIRCLE: A DICTIONARY OF HUMANE THOUGHT COMPILED BY JON WYNNE-TYSON. Fontwell, Sussex: Centaur Press, 1986. Octavo, wrappers. Second impression, with corrections. A commonplace book of passages from numerous writers espousing vegetarianism, humanitarianism and similar sentiments. Wynne-Tyson is known among fantasy cognoscenti as the third King of Redonda, the little rock in the Caribbean whose first self-proclaimed monarch was M. P. Shiel (H. M. Felipe I), a major figure in late 19th and early 20th century supernatural and science fiction. Shiel passed the crown on to author and editor Terence Ian Fytton Armstrong, better known as John Gawsworth (H. M. Juan I), who in turn passed it on to Wynne-Tyson (H. M. Juan II). Wynne-Tyson, whose mother Esmé was also a writer, wrote fiction and non-fiction, of which the present volume is a characteristic example. Inscribed to John Squires, noted Shiel scholar. A fine copy. (#142666).
