THE CIVILISED ALTERNATIVE: A PATTERN FOR PROTEST. [Fontewell, Sussex]: Centaur Press Ltd., [1972]. Octavo, boards. First edition. A manifesto for a cluster of progressive causes. Wynne-Tyson is known among fantasy cognoscenti as the third King of Redonda, the little rock in the Caribbean whose first self-proclaimed monarch was M. P. Shiel (H. M. Felipe I), a major figure in late 19th and early 20th century supernatural and science fiction. Shiel passed the crown on to author and editor Terence Ian Fytton Armstrong, better known as John Gawsworth (H. M. Juan I), who in turn passed it on to Wynne-Tyson (H. M. Juan II). Wynne-Tyson, whose mother Esmé was also a writer, wrote both fiction and non-fiction and founded the Centaur Press in 1954. Inscribed to John Squires, noted Shiel scholar. A very good copy with scattered mildew to boards in fine price-clipped dust jacket. (#142680).
