First edition, variant (probably later) binding. H. P. Lovecraft's copy with his signature at the top edge of the front free endpaper. The book was given to HPL by Samuel Loveman who has written on the endpaper: "For Howard / as a token of his Friend's esteem. S.L." Collects twenty stories by Niccolo Machiavelli, Washington Irving, Wilhelm Hauff, Nikolai Gogol, William Makepeace Thackeray, Charles Baudelaire, and others.
