"Reprints two short fantasy novels, THE DOUBTS OF DIVES, in which a 'wealthy socialite is inspired by his ennui to exchange bodies with a friend who feels that his talents are frustrated by poverty' (Barron [ed], Fantasy Literature 2-16); and THE DEMONIAC, a 'lurid account of the horrid afflictions of alcoholism' (ibid.) and, according to Ashley (Who's Who in Horror and Fantasy Fiction, p. 34), 'a chilling novel of Satanism.' The first editions of these two novels were published as paperbacks by Arrowsmith (in 1889 and 1890, respectively) and are now nearly impossible to acquire. Also present are two short stories, the title story and 'The Doll's House -- and After'. The latter is a tragic extrapolation of the consequences of Norah's abandonment of her husband and children in Ibsen's famous and controversial play.
