HAUNTED. London, Melbourne and Toronto: Ward, Lock & Co., Limited, 1911. Octavo, pp. [1-5] 6-320 + undated 16-page publisher's catalogue inserted at rear, inserted frontispiece with illustration by Howard Somerville, original decorated green cloth, front and spine panels stamped in blind and gold. First edition. Warden was a prolific author of popular mystery fiction, now almost entirely forgotten. The present volume is an example of sensational crime fiction with rationalized supernatural touches. A rich, bored American heir goes to England in search of adventure and finds that and more. Hubin (1994), p. 840. Small rubber stamp on front free endpaper of the Hotel Britannia, Monte Carlo; above it is a contemporary private owner's penciled signature. Spine ends lightly rubbed, light wear to corner tips, a few fox marks to edges of text block, a very good copy. (#147927).
