TARZAN AND THE GOLDEN LION. New York: Grosset & Dunlap Publishers, [1927]. Octavo, pp. [1-8] 1-333 [334: blank] [335-344: ads] [note: first leaf is a blank preceding half title leaf], four inserted plates with film stills, original orange cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black. First printing of the photoplay edition. The correct first printings of both book and dust jacket with no mention of THE OUTLAW OF TORN or THE WAR CHIEF, both 1928 Grosset & Dunlap titles, or TARZAN, LORD OF THE JUNGLE or THE MASTER MIND OF MARS, both 1929 Grosset & Dunlap titles. FBO's 1927 Tarzan film, starring James Pierce, ERB's future son-in-law, was the first full-length Tarzan feature and the last of the Tarzan silent movies. Bleiler, Science-Fiction: The Early Years 324. Teitler 198. Bleiler (1978), p. 36. Reginald 02321. Heins GL-3a. Neat gift inscription dated "Xmas 1927" on front free endpaper. A couple of narrow damp stains along upper fore-edge of front cover, a bright, nearly fine copy in nearly fine first printing four-color pictorial dust jacket with faint stain along upper half of the fore-edge of the front panel. A very nice copy. First printing copies of this photoplay edition are elusive and are rarely found in first printing jackets in superior condition. (#151433).
