Stephens, original pictorial beige cloth, front and spine panels stamped in dark green, t.e.g., other edges untrimmed. First edition. A short romantic adventure novel set in Southern California of Indian magic performed by Kamaiakan and Semitzin, reincarnated Aztec priest and priestess from the age of Montezuma seeking gold hidden from the conquistadores. Ultimately, both sorcerers die, but Semitzin's soul is absorbed by the heroine. Issued as part of Lippincott's "The Lotos Library" series. The novel was published with a title page as the May 1892 issue of LIPPINCOTT'S MAGAZINE which could be considered the "first edition." Teitler and Locke, By the World Forgot (2013) 599.
