THE SORCERESS OF PARIS: BEING THE CHRONICLE OF JEAN LOUIS CHARLES COUNT DE DUNOIS. Ditchfield, H.

THE SORCERESS OF PARIS: BEING THE CHRONICLE OF JEAN LOUIS CHARLES COUNT DE DUNOIS. London: Sampson Low, Marston, & Company Limited, n.d. [1896]. Octavo, pp. [i-iv] v-ix [x] xi-xii [1] 2-299 [300: blank], title page and cover design by Anthony Fox, title page printed in red and black, original pictorial tan cloth, front and spine panels stamped in orange and black, t.e.g. First edition. Novel about French nobles who attempt to assassinate Cardinal Richelieu. Not fantastic, although the "sorceress" Susanne has occult powers, including second sight. She is a white witch who pays dearly for the use of her gift. Bleiler (1978), p. 61. Not in Reginald or Wolff. 1896 Christmas gift inscription by the author's sister on the front free endpaper. Small, light stain at bottom edge of rear cover, cloth dusty and a bit spotted, free endpapers tanned, still a very good copy of an attractive book. (#152111).
