THE FLYING HALCYON: A MYSTERY OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN ... New Version. London, Manchester and New York: George Routledge and Sons, Limited, n.d. . Octavo, original pictorial cream boards printed in red, blue, brown and black. Later edition (first cheap British edition). Adventure novel featuring Chinese pirates and a tribe of Yaqui Indians who guard an Aztec treasure temple on an island off the coast of South America; borderline lost race. Richard Henry Savage (1886-1899) was a prolific writer of romance and adventure fiction, most published in the 1890s. The first edition of this novel was published in 1894 by Neely and also had the "new version" statement on the copyright page, possibly to distinguish it from the magazine version published in LIPPINCOTT'S MAGAZINE the same year. Topp, Victorian Yellowbacks & Paperbacks, 1849-1905, I, p. 452. Wright (III) 4776 (citing the Neely edition). Boards rubbed, generally a very good copy, somewhat above average for a fragile yellowback. All editions of this book appear to be uncommon. (#152465).
