Small octavo, pp. [i-iii] iv  6-367 [368: printer's imprint], rebound in olive green cloth. Later printing (?) of the first one volume edition. Published anonymously. The first edition, published in 1877 by John Maxwell and Co. in three volumes, had two stories, "The Scene-Painter's Wife" and "A Very Narrow Escape," not published here. This edition was published both in yellowback format and in cloth. The collection includes two ghost stories: "John Granger" and "Her Last Appearance."
