[1890s?]. 17.5 cm (small octavo), pp. [3-13] 14-126 [127-128: blank] [note: first and last leaves are blanks used as front and rear paste-down; text complete despite gap in pagination], 25 illustrations, publisher's pictorial salmon cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black, white and gold, rear panel stamped in black. First edition, a later printing with no date on the title page and "The / Gordon / Library" printed on the spine panel. Fictional adventures of miners who enter Yosemite Valley in 1851 in search of horses stolen by the Ahwaneechees. Gordon was a very prolific British author of fiction and nonfiction for young readers. And, he translated several books written by Jules Verne. Gift inscription on page [5]: "For Walter / with / Gordon's love. / Oct. 4, 1897." Small chips from upper fore-edge margins of pages 111/112 and 113/114, else a clean, very good copy. (#155676).
