SARATOGA ALBUM. INDELIBLE PHOTOGRAPHS FROM RECENT NEGATIVES. Copyright 1896, by A. Wittemann, Publisher of American Views, 15 Laight St., N.Y. New York: The Albertype Co., n.d. [1896]. Oblong octavo, pp. [1-4], 18 plates, publisher's cloth stamped in gold and blind, string tied. Second edition? An album of photographic views. Apparently, there is an 1893 edition which differs from this one. Both editions are uncommon. Brothers Adolph and Herman Wittemann founded the Albertype Company, a publisher of souvenir view books and postcards, in 1887. The company used the recent technological innovation of the collotype, or albertype, to photomechanically reproduce images. Amassing photographic negatives of towns and cities across the United States, the Albertype Company produced over twenty-five thousand collotypes before its closure in 1952. A fine copy. (#155740).
