ADRIFT IN THE PACIFIC ... New and Cheaper Edition. London: Sampson Low, Marston, & Company Limited, n.d. [1890s?]. Octavo, pp. [i-v] vi-vii [viii] [5] 6-142 [143: printer's imprint] [144: blank]. eleven illustrations by L. Benett, original pictorial green cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black and gold. Later printing of the first British edition. Sampson Low published the first printing of their British edition in November 1888. The "New and Cheaper Edition" was first published in 1892 and this is probably a later printing of that edition. The illustrations in this printing are integral to the text block. This story was first published in 1888 as DEUX ANS DE VACANCES, and in English in early 1889 in George Munro's cheap paperbound "Seaside Library" series as A TWO YEAR'S VACATION. The Munro and Sampson Low translations are very different. Myers 1. Taves and Michaluk V034. Gallagher, Mistichelli and Van Eerde A65. Generic bookplate and tiny 1951 Boys Town stamp affixed to the front paste-down. Slight spine lean, lacks front free endpaper, a bright, very good copy. (#156930).
