E. S. Denison's Yosemite views. Sam Miller, Agent. 2 New Mont'g. St. San Francisco. [San Francisco: Lith. H. S. Crocker & Co.], n.d. [circa 1880-1881]. 23 x 15 cm (octavo), pp. [1-104] (not paginated), 50 full-page lithograph illustrations, 2 maps, original pictorial wrappers printed in red, black and gold, page edges stained red, side stapled. First edition. Cover title reads: "Yosemite and the Big Trees of California. Tourist Ticket Agency. 2 Montgomery St. Cor. Market St. San Francisco." All but two of the views are of Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Big Tree Grove. The lithographs were made by E. Wyttenbach, most based on photographs taken by George Fiske. A schedule dated 1881 of rail and stage service between San Francisco and Yosemite Valley via Clark's (Wawona) is printed on the title page verso. There is no text save for captions opposite each view. Some of the illustrations were redrawn and published in N. W. Griswold's Beauties of California (1883). E. S. Denison was an agent for the Central Pacific Railroad. This copy has Denison's dated stamp on the verso of the last leaf reading: "E. S. Denison / General News Agent / Jul 6 1883 / C. P. R. R. and S. P. / San Francisco, Cal." Currey and Kruska 100. Light wear and dust soiling to wrappers, a bit of wear at spine ends, a very good copy. Enclosed in a custom-made folding cloth box. (#157212).
