China egg cup from the Wawona Hotel, Yosemite, California. Syracuse, New York: Onondaga Pottery Company, n.d. [circa 1896]. Footed egg cup, measures approximately 2 3/4 inches in diameter by 2 1/2 inches in height. This "Blue Liberty" pattern was developed specifically for the Hotel industry. Hotel logos were introduced in 1896. When President Grant dined at the Wawona Hotel soon after its opening in October of 1879 it was on China made by the Onondaga Pottery Company (founded 1841 as Farrar Pottery).
