(#157509) THE EYE OF THE LENS. Langdon Jones.

THE EYE OF THE LENS. New York: The Macmillan Company, [1972]. Tall octavo, blue wrappers printed in black, string-tied. Unpaged long galleys of the first edition. A collection of "new wave" stories, five first published in NEW WORLDS QUARTERLY (1966-1969), and one in ORBIT 5 edited by Damon Knight. "Avant-garde SF/fantasy stories ... The early 'I Remember, Anita,' about nuclear fears, now seems overwritten and embarrassingly maudlin, but some of the later pieces, such as the title story and 'The Great Clock,' are powerful in a mysterious, Kafkaesque way." - Pringle, The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction, second edition (1995), p. 127. Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-577. Wrappers a bit spotted and dusty. some sheets dog-eared at upper right corner, a very good copy. Formerly, author/critic Theodore Sturgeon's copy. Only a handful of these galleys were prepared. Rare. (#157509).
