THREE THOUSAND YEARS. Reading, Pennsylvania: Fantasy Press, Inc., [1954]. Octavo, cloth. First edition, first binding. An early computer story, first published as a three-part serial in ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION, April-June 1938. Mankind awakes after a sleep of thirty centuries to an evolved, hostile Earth. The story of the catastrophe and its aftermath is narrated by the sentient computer whose wrong conclusion based on incomplete data supplied by its inventor led to the disaster. The computer is about to be disconnected but it hopes that it "may live again in segments [to] perform my useful functions." Mild tanning to endpapers along gutter margins, a fine copy in nearly fine dust jacket with hint of rubbing at edges. (#157776).
