(#158337) THE GIRLS FROM PLANET 5. Richard Wilson.

THE GIRLS FROM PLANET 5. New York: Ballantine Books, [1955]. Small octavo, cloth. First edition. Lovely ladies from another planet invade a USA already dominated by women, with the exception of the holdout state of Texas. The men take over again because the women have done a bad job. Wilson's first novel (as well as his first book) and the "first of his three satires in which aliens comically invade Earth; the others were AND THEN THE TOWN TOOK OFF (1960) and 30-DAY WONDER (1960). In each, Wilson made use of the arrivals from outer space to generate mocking perspectives on our own behavior: from the strident patriarchy still attempting, in the first novel, to keep Texas pure although the rest of the USA has become a matriarchy, to the appalling consequences, in the third, of being exposed to aliens who observe to the literal letter all Earth laws and enforce similar behavior on us." - John Clute, SFE (online). Sargent, British and American Utopian Literature, 1516-1985, p. 259. Tanning to fore-edge margins of text block, else a fine copy in very good dust jacket with some internal tape at edges and a price sticker abrasion on the front panel. (#158337).
