(#158405) Adventures on the high trail: Norma Blaisdell in the High Sierras. ALLEN CHAFFEE.

Adventures on the high trail: Norma Blaisdell in the High Sierras. Springfield, Massachusetts: McLoughlin Bros., Inc., n.d. [circa 1930s or 1940s]. 18.3 cm (octavo), pp. [1-8] 1-256 [257-258: blank] [note: first and last leaves used as front and rear paste-downs], four redrawn illustrations based on drawings by Charles H. Lassell, original red boards, front and spine panels stamped in black. Later edition. Cheap reprint (printed on bad pulp paper) of a book first published in 1923. A romantic adventure story for young adults with High Sierra setting based on the route taken by the 1922 Sierra Club Outing, 9 July to 6 August, a pack-trip of approximately 270 miles making a circuit of the high country of the proposed Roosevelt-Sequoia National Park (from Giant Forest to Mount Whitney by Little Five Lakes Basin, and back by Junction Pass and Kings River Canyon). An appendix describes the "Mountaineering outfit recommended by the Sierra Club." There are later printings, most (all?) adding the subtitle "Norma Blaisdell in the High Sierras"; one, copyright 1930, has 256 pages, as do (all?) others. The expanded editions add two unrelated stories, neither set in the Sierra Nevada. A good copy in good pictorial dust jacket. (#158405).
