THE WINGED SHIP. Solon L. Goode.

THE WINGED SHIP. Indianapolis, Ind. American Farmer Co., [1897]. Octavo, pp. [1-2] 3 [4] 5 [6] 7-79 [80: blank], flyleaves at front and rear, thirteen full page illustrations by Vinnie Rram Goode, original decorated red cloth, front panel stamped in gold, floral patterned endpapers. First edition. A presentation copy from the author's wife with signed inscription by her on the front flyleaf to "Herman C. Wolff. / Compliments of / Mrs. Solon L. Goode." A charming interplanetary fantasy poem in which four "Sprites" from "Elfin Land" tour our solar system in a spaceship. The poem, written for young readers, is antiwar and marginally utopian. Influenced by Palmer Cox's Brownies, the poem, according to the preface, was written for Goode's son Jamie, who was ill with "scarlatina." Partial hairline crack along inner front hinge which is still holding tight, some light staining and soiling to cloth, a very good copy. An uncommon book. (#159933).

Price: $250.00
