NIGHTMARES: A COLLECTION OF UNEASY TALES. London: Philip Allan, [1933]. Octavo, pp. [1-8] 9-255 [256: ad], original dark blue cloth, spine panel stamped in black. First edition. Original anthology collecting twelve stories by Birkin (as "Charles Lloyd"), Tod Robbins and others. Features the first appearance of Frederick Cowles's "The Headless Leper," subsequently collected in the rare and much-sought HORROR OF ABBOT'S GRANGE (1936). Part of the classic fourteen volume "Creeps" series. Barron (ed), Horror Literature 3-23. Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 1234. Bleiler (1978), p. 8. Reginald 10687. Mild tanning to text block, but a fine copy in good pictorial dust jacket with chipping along top and bottom edges, the two largest at upper left corner of the spine panel with loss of "NI" in "NIGHTMARES," two chips along front spine fold, several short tears, and some internal tape mends, mostly along front spine fold. A fairly nice copy of one of scarcer Creeps titles to be found in dust jacket. (#161231).
