NOMAD ...

NOMAD. New York: Minton, Balch & Company, 1925. Octavo, pp. [1-10] 1-253 [254: blank], three inserted plates with illustrations by J D. Laudermilk, original olive green cloth, front panel stamped in blind, spine panel stamped in gold, top edge stained olive green, other edges rough trimmed. First edition. The author's second novel, a Cabellian fantasy. Born in Virginia, Paul Jordan-Smith (1885-1971), moved to California in 1914 and resided there for the rest of his life. He was a book collector and one of the foremost authorities on the seventeenth-century British author and scholar Robert Burton. He is perhaps best known for his hoax art movement Disumbrationism, a reflection of his dislike of modern American art as represented in the Armory Show. Laudermilk's illustrations are reminiscent of Sime, Wallace Smith and Howard Wandrei. Bleiler (1978), p. 182. Reginald 13380. Smith, American Fiction, 1901-1925 S-664. Touch of foxing to title leaf, a bright, nearly fine copy. (#162047).
